Many people proclaim that the winter season is their least favorite of all the seasons, due to the harsh weather, snow and hail that can bring a great deal of inconvenience. One of the other reasons why many people hate the winter seasons, is the fact that the cold and flu virus, runs rampant during this time period. But alas, while the weather, snow and hail may be unavoidable, as far as alleviating all the symptoms that are associated with getting the common cold goes, there are a few simple things you can do, to ensure that you have a speedy recovery.
1) Dry Throat Relief
One of the most annoying symptoms that many people experience whenever they have the common cold is a dry throat. This is due to the fact that the cold virus causes the body to gradually become less and less hydrated. As such, when this occurs, the body tries to use the least amount of hydration possible. The end result is that you may continuously feel thirsty and experience a dry throat. Therefore, ensure that you drink at least 8-10 eight ounce glasses of water, everyday.
2) Stuffy Nose Relief
Another common symptom that many people experience is a stuffy nose. A congested nose that occurs as a result of the cold is not caused by mucus per se, but by the inflammation and constriction of nasal airways blood vessels, that were triggered by the infection. When it comes to clearing up a stuffy nose, there are two different approaches that you can utilize.
The first of which is a solution that clears up the mucus within your nose. A perfect remedy for this solution is a saline nasal spray. It's worth noting though, that by utilizing a saline nasal spray, you will have to continuously use it until your nasal airways open up again. The other solution that you can utilize, focuses on your constricted nasal airways instead of the accumulated mucus. Products that contain a corticosteriod, such as betamethasone, can help to tackle congestion at the source by forcing your constricted nasal airway's blood vessels, to open up and go back to their regular size.
3) Earache Relief
In some instances, you may even experience an earache whenever you have the common cold as well. One of the reasons why some people experience earaches whenever they have a cold may be due to the misconception that you should forcefully, blow your nose whenever it's congested. The problem with doing this is that research suggests that, blowing your nose may actually make it worse due to the fact there may be an abundance of bacteria within your nose's mucus, that will enter into the sinuses, which will ultimately cause a variety of secondary bacteria infections to manifest themselves in the sinuses. As such, in a situation like this, you need to unclog your sinuses with a product like Claritin, that works great at unclogging sinuses.
4) Internal Defense Boost
Many experts agree, that the best defense and offense against the common cold is a strong immune system. In order for you to have a strong immune system, you need to ensure that you body receives a healthy balance of vitamins and nutrients. Many experts recommend that you eat at least 8 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday, to give your body all the nutrients it needs to fight or resist the common cold. The problem with this though, is that many people do not see themselves eating 8 servings of apples, bananas or broccoli as practical. As such, the end result is that they have a weaker immune system and in essence, are more vulnerable to the effects of the common cold.
One way that you can ensure that you do get an adequate amount of nutrients though, is by utilizing a green slow juice product. A green slow juice product ultimately squeezes out the nutrients of any fruit or vegetable and liquidizes it. All the unwanted ingredients, such as the skin, stems and seeds are all filtered out. As such, you can consume a larger amount of vegetables and fruits, in a shorter amount of time and give your immune system a well needed boost.
