Walnuts, the nuts of the walnut tree are actually rounded single seeded stone fruits, so they are not true nuts in the botanical sense. Fully ripened walnuts are often used for their nutmeat and we love them as being a healthful snack or as a tasty and healthy ingredient for baking. The green nuts are sometimes used for foods like pickled walnuts.
